FAQs

Am I guaranteed to see polar bears in Churchill?

While Churchill is known as the “Polar Bear Capital of the World” and offers excellent opportunities for polar bear viewing, it’s important to note that wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

This tour is carefully designed to maximize your chances of observing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. In addition, you will be escorted by knowledgeable experts to provide the best possible conditions for spotting polar bears during their migration season.

What is the best season to travel on this tour?

The Churchill Classic Polar Bear Adventure is only offered on select dates during the fall months of October and November. During this time, polar bears typically gather near Churchill as they wait for the Hudson Bay to freeze, allowing them to access their hunting grounds on the ice. This period, known as the ‘polar bear season’, offers the highest likelihood of polar bear sightings and unique Arctic experiences.

If you wish to travel to Churchill in a different time, we suggest you take a look at our Churchill Northern Lights & Winter Nights or Churchill Belugas, Bears and Blooms packages.

Do I need to make my own travel arrangements to Winnipeg?

Yes, guests are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to Winnipeg, Manitoba, which is the starting point for this tour package. Information on meeting points and times in will be provided at the time of booking, and you should plan to arrive in Winnipeg before the selected departure date.

As a full-service travel agency, Discover Canada Tours can help you book your flights, accommodations, insurance, and other preferred travel arrangements worldwide. Please speak to an agent to inquire about this service.

What is the weather like in Winnipeg and Churchill?

Winnipeg and Churchill experience significantly different climates due to their geographical locations. Winnipeg has a continental climate, and you can expect chilly to cold temperatures in Winnipeg in October and November.

Churchill, on the other hand, has a subarctic climate, and during the polar bear season, temperatures can be very cold, often below zero. Snowfall is possible, and you should be prepared for cold and windy conditions during your time in Churchill. We strongly advise that you bring appropriate warm clothing and gear to stay comfortable during your Arctic adventure.
