Our History

Because we believe stories are important

Created in 2005, Discover Canada Tours (formerly Club ESL Tours) is a division of UNIGLOBE Specialty Travel Ltd.

UNIGLOBE Specialty & Discover Canada Tours is proud to be a local family owned and operated business.
The passion for travel and tourism runs in the family.

Uniglobe Specialty Travel Welcomes Club ESL

Doug and Dianne Revell purchased the UNIGLOBE Specialty franchise from the previous owners in 1995. Shortly after, their daughter Kelly Revell-Drdul, joined the business and is currently the General Manager & Groups Specialist for Uniglobe. Their other daughter, Stacey Thorson, joined the company in 2005 to launch the inbound tour division with her brother-in-law, Clint Drdul.

The Driving Forces Of Club ESL

Clint Drdul came up with the original concept of Club ESL in late 2003/2004. The initial concept was to design a comprehensive ESL portal, which would be a resource centre for ESL students living and studying in Vancouver. It would represent all ESL schools, activities and tour companies. Club ESL was initially intended to be the ESL global gateway. During this time Stacey Thorson was working in the Middle East on various projects for USAID which included Tourism Development Consulting. She returned to Vancouver in 2004 and after a year of working in a management consulting firm she joined the family business in order to help turn the dream into a reality. Stacey had always been passionate about travel and from her own experience as an international student, she was fueled by a desire to improve international travel for young travellers and young at heart travellers in Canada.

The Reason Club ESL Was Born

Together Clint and Stacey shared the same vision to create and operate fully-guided tours throughout British Columbia specifically for the international student market. The Club ESL portal evolved into this new concept and in February, 2005, Club ESL Tours was officially launched. The goal of Club ESL Tours was to offer unique, fun, interactive and flexible travel experiences for the best value and to share the most spectacular places, attractions and activities in Western Canada. The tours were fully-guided, offered year-round, and promised to provide guests with the time of their lives.

The Official Launch Of Discover Canada Tours

In 2009 we expanded into pre & post convention tours, corporate team building tours, and incentive tours. In 2010, just in time for the Olympics, we rebranded ourselves as Discover Canada Tours.

Branching Out Into The Youth Student Market

DSCA (Discover Canada Student Adventures ) was launched in 2010 and quickly became established in the local market as a trusted provider of tours and activities for youth students (18 years and under). DCSA partners with educators and international student program coordinators at local secondary schools.

Let It Snow

In January 2015, Destination Snow was purchased to expand our winter product and market share, making us one of the largest Student & Youth Travel providers in Western Canada and setting us up as one of the few year round tour operators in Canada.

Bring West Trek Into The Family

The natural growth and desire to improve did not stop there and in 2018 DCT acquired their long time competitors West Trek Tours. The amalgamation of the Club ESL and West Trek in 2019 finally allowed DCT to shift from its primarily ESL student market and enabled us to include all types of international students and not just those studying under the ESL label.

Introducing West Trek Social Club

Seeing the value in the brand the West Trek Social club was born with the aim of creating a social community of like minded travellers and adventurers thus allowing the Discover Canada Tours brand to focus on the 25 plus market while still ensuring a value added product was available for the young travellers.

The Relaunch Of Our Daily Departures

The pandemic brought its own challenges but Discover Canada Tours was determined to weather the storm and keep the adventure alive. The company relaunched their daily tour departures brand, Discover Vancouver Tours in 2021.
