Overview

Journey along the road less travelled. We are offering some of our Extraordinary Experiences as a self-drive adventure now. We will take care of your hotel bookings and attraction admissions. You will have the flexibility to take your time at each stop. We will also provide you with a sample itinerary written by our team of experts in order to experience this adventure to the fullest. Let us take care of the planning so that you can enjoy the adventure stress-free. This self-drive tour will have you explore some of the most stunning and less crowded areas Western Canada has to offer. After departing the Pearl of the Pacific, Vancouver, you will travel through the Fraser Valley and the Coastal Rainforests towards Canada's only desert, The Okanagan. Explore the Okanagan Valley with its orchards and vineyards and make several stops at some of the most famous wineries in the area. Don't miss the opportunity to sample local cider made from apples that are famously grown in the area, as well as the opportunity to see why the Canadian wine scene is fast becoming known around the world. After leaving the Okanagan Valley, you will travel through the ever-changing landscapes of mountains, valleys and hot springs when entering the Kootenays. The Kootenays has a long and rich archeological history. Signs show that man has been inhabiting the area for the past 10,000 years with the Ktunaxa people residing there permanently for the past few hundred years. This is known from the pictograms in some of the hot spring caves. You will head through the Kootenays and into the Rocky Mountains. Sheer, imposing, impressive; these mountains will genuinely make you feel that nature is more significant than us, and we are a mere speck on the face of this earth. You will travel up a section of the Icefields Parkway and have the opportunity to go onto the Athabasca Glacier with the Ice Explorer. You will also have the chance to see the best glacial lakes in Canada, including Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and Emerald Lake. The greens, turquoise and blues will leave you with a memory you will never forget. You will also be based in the town of Banff for this part of the tour. Banff is arguably one of the most famous towns in the Rockies. It is quaint, with some spectacular dining and shopping options. Discover Canada Tours is also able to assist you with car rental, travel insurance and flight bookings should you require them. You also have the option to book a professional driver/guide and private vehicle. We own a fleet of vehicles ranging from a sprinter van to deluxe mini-coaches. This is a great option for multigenerational family trips.

Top Highlights

There are many highlights on this tour, but there are a few that stand out above all others. You will have the opportunity to sightsee your way through the most beautiful parts of Western Canada. There are some areas on this adventure that are still considered hidden treasures! There will be many chances to see some of the wildlife that is native to Western Canada, including moose, elk, black and grizzly bears and bald eagles. Travelling through areas of Western Canada, known for their local breweries and wineries, you should not miss the opportunity to sample some local wines, ciders or beers. In addition, some areas you will be travelling to are known for their natural hot springs, that are worth a visit.
