We are looking for a passionate, outgoing, nature-loving individual to join our rockstar team of tour guides! We take groups of tourists & international students to the most desirable places in Western Canada, including, but not limited to, the Rocky Mountains, Whistler, Victoria, Tofino, as well as Seattle in the USA. A high percentage of our clients are international students from around the globe and they are here to improve their English and experience all of the wonders Canada has to offer. Our goal is to provide them with the greatest experiences during their time in Canada, and memories that will last a lifetime.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Efficiently maintain prepared tour schedule
  • Passionately deliver commentary and stories to passengers throughout the tour
  • Observe and follow all by-laws and rules of the road
  • Daily vehicle safety inspections and completion of driver & vehicle reports
  • Handle cash and sell activities & tickets
  • Connect with people and maintain relationships
  • Report directly to Tour Guide Supervisor
  • Take photos and videos while on tour for marketing purposes
  • Attend staff meetings and parties
  • Available on weekends and holidays between May and September

EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENCES

  • High School Diploma is required
  • Previous experience in the capacity of a Tour Director and/or ESL teacher is an asset
  • Degree or Diploma in a tourism program is an asset but not necessary
  • Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s Licence (*or a willingness to obtain before start date)
  • First Aid Certificate (Mandatory –  to obtain before start date)
  • Recent Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector (Mandatory –  to obtain before start date)

Our Tour Guides will be responsible for the daily tour operations, providing excellent tour commentary, and ultimately ensuring our passengers have the trip of a lifetime. We are looking for people to join our team who possess a great personality, a passion for travel, and a commitment to excellence.

JOB DESCRIPTION 

 

Reporting to the Directors, the Digital Marketing Specialist is responsible for implementing Discover Canada Tours digital marketing plan. The primary responsibilities include coordinating the company’s online presence and increasing overall lead generation (travel requests, email subscribers, online bookings) through a variety of means, including creating and managing current and new digital marketing initiatives, managing our search engine and pay per click efforts, maintaining monthly reporting dashboard, and website management for it’s unique brands.  

 

 

Specific Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

 

  • In conjunction with the Directors, assist in constantly updating the organization’s marketing strategy
  • Develop, implement and oversee a comprehensive social media strategy
  • Create ad campaign strategies for Google Ads and Facebook/Instagram Ads
  • Brainstorm new and creative growth strategies
  • Plan and execute all web, SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media, print and display advertising campaigns
  • Measure and report performance of all digital marketing campaigns and social platforms
  • Day-to-day management of all social media channels including but not limited to Facebook, Oversee creative, clear & consistent message development in all divisions and to all markets
  • In conjunction with the graphic designers, develop all sales materials and marketing publications including, presentations, brochures, flyers, posters, etc. 
  • Work on cooperative advertising programs 
  • Manage Google My Business account 
  • Work with budgets set by senior management and stay within budget, no scope-creep
  • Continuously monitor ads performance and make adjustments when needed
  • Contribute to and monitor the flow of web content provided by both staff and 3rd parties
  • Oversee all aspects of website development, structure and useability for all DCT brands
  • Optimize sites to increase direct bookings
  • Work in cPanel to set up/update MySQL databases

 

 

Position Core Requirements:

 

  • Marketing degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years experience with Google, Facebook/Instagram ads 
  • Minimum 3 years with WordPress and CSS experience
  • Minimum 3 years content and social media experience
  • Intermediate experience with cPanel and phpMyAdmin 
  • Experience in the Tourism & Hospitality Industry is a significant asset
  • Demonstrable experience leading and managing SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media and/or display advertising campaigns
  • Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that engage, inform and motivate
  • Experience in setting up and optimizing Google Ad words campaigns
  • Working knowledge of the WordPress platform, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript development and constraints

JOB OVERVIEW 

The Leisure & Groups Travel Consultant will be responsible for responding to incoming tour and travel inquiries with the primary goal of converting all inquiries to sales. The Leisure & Groups Travel Consultant will interact effectively with all of our customers and partners and have the ability to respond to inquiries independently, professionally and promptly. 

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

    • Be one of the first points of contact for incoming tour and travel inquiries and responsible for responding to customer inquiries through a variety of channels including walk-ins, phone, email, social media, CRM, etc.
    • Book clients on DCT tours using through our internal booking system
    • Book flights, car rentals, insurance using GDS (Sabre preferred) 
    • Respond to FIT and also inbound custom group requests and qualify each lead through a series of structured questions, treating each inquiry with patience and focus
  • Create inbound custom tour quotes using extensive knowledge of geographical information & suppliers throughout Canada. 
    • Create outbound custom tour quotes using extensive knowledge of popular leisure destinations & international suppliers
    • Develop group itineraries for international travel through sabre and a UCQM (quality management system)
  • Create unique itineraries and packages that will impress customers, in consultation with the DCT Product Manager or the Uniglobe General Manager
  • Using a pricing template and researching similar products set a price that will provide good value to the clients while meeting profit margin targets, in consultation with the Product Manager
  • Identify Canadian luxury retreats, lodges, and unique experiences that we can add to our portfolio of extraordinary experiences 
    • Manage the extraordinary experience bookings and work with marketing team to promote these experiences 
  • Ensure that all reservations are processed in accordance with established policies
  • Maintain current knowledge of promotions and specials and proactively advise clients of savings opportunities.
  • Work with the accounting team to collect and document all deposits and payments according to the schedule outlined in the agreement between client and company

Position Requirements:

  • Studies in Travel & Tourism is an asset
  • Minimum 3 years selling experience within an agency and tour operator environment is a requirement
  • Experience using GDS systems is a requirement, experience with Sabre is a significant asset
  • Previous experience creating FIT and group proposals within a  tour company is an asset
  • Available to work full-time in the office

  • Drive and ability to convert all inquiries and leads into sales and to try to exceed personal sales and revenue targets 
  • Extensive travel experience and  knowledge of Canada and core international destinations (like Mexico, Hawaii, Caribbean etc.)

ROAD RANGER FAQs

Yes, you will need a license class allowing you to drive vehicles of a seating capacity of up to 24 passengers. A Class 4 or Class 2 license depending on the province.

No, you do not need to have it in order to get hired. We do offer Step on Guiding Positions.

If you are interested in becoming a Driver Guide you will need a perfect driving abstract and must obtain the license at least 1 month prior to the start of the season.

Yes. You need to have a valid first aid certification of a minimum of 20h including CPR.

No, you need to obtain your own visa and be legal to work in Canada in order to come and work for us. A working holiday visa is usually the fastest and easiest way to go.

Yes, A company phone is provided for certain tours but you are expected to have your own phone.

Discover Canada Tours offers trips throughout the year. Depending on your availability, experience and destination knowledge, the summer season runs from April to October with a peak season being June to mid-september and a winter peak occurring during the months of January, Feb and March.

Our travellers comprises everything from high-school students, university students, ESL students through to mature and experienced travellers. No two tours are the same and you will need to adjust your commentary and guiding style to fit the demographic. While this sounds daunting, it is actually one of the best parts of the job.

We run different types of trips ranging from day trips featuring local attractions to overnight camping, backpackers and upmarket hotel based trips. For more information have a look at our list of adventures.

Scheduling is done according to availability, trip type, guide’s abilities and logistical realities. Guides that are keen, can expect to work a full year. Seasonal Guides can expect roughly around 50-80 days.

Yes. Some overnight trips will include a light breakfast and potentially a dinner but this amount may differ from one tour to another.

No. Tour Guides will receive company credit cards prior to the start of the trip to cover all of the trip’s expenses.

No. Most of our Tours start from Vancouver. If the tour starts from out of the lower mainland, BC, then DCT will take care of transportation costs.

We run tours everywhere in Canada but the bulk of our tours take place in Western Canada, North West Washington State, and the Yukon.
